Officer Charges

On December 3, 2021, our office learned that two Long Beach Police Officers, D. Reyes and R. Salcedo, would be charged by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office with falsifying police reports.*

We stated at that time, “Both officers are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty, but our office is taking this matter very seriously.”  We created and published a Case Action Plan Memo to provide full transparency about the handling of cases involving Officers Reyes and Salcedo

On September 26, 2023, our office learned that both Officer Reyes and Officer Salcedo were acquitted of all charges against them.

Accordingly, our office policy has been modified so that cases still pending involving the officers as witnesses will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine if we can proceed with charges.  Future developments related to such cases, if any, will be posted on this page.

* It should be noted, that Reyes and Salcedo were prosecuted by the LA District Attorney’s Office, an entirely separate agency from the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office.  Our office is only aware of the facts related to the prosecution as reported by news sources.
