LBCP Summer Interns 2018

Areli Soto

Areli Soto served as a Summer Intern with the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office in 2018. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from University of California, Irvine in 2018. Following her internship, Areli continued with the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office, where she worked as a Prosecutor Assistant for six years. She later began the process of applying to law school, with plans to pursue legal studies beginning Fall 2025.


Brooke Baeyens

Brooke Baeyens served as a Summer Intern with the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office in 2018. She earned her Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law, where she was inducted into the Pro Bono Honors Society and the Public Service Honors Society, and received the Gordon & Holmes Oral Advocacy Scholarship for her performance on the Trial Advocacy Teams. Prior to entering private practice, Brooke served as a legal intern with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. She later joined Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo, where her practice focuses on representing Southern California school districts and county offices of education in labor, employment, and general education matters.


Justin Calub

Justin Calub served as a Summer Intern with the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office in 2018. After his internship, he attended Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law and went on to pursue a career in prosecution. He later became a Deputy District Attorney with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.


Kaitlyn Allen

Kaitlyn Allen served as a Summer Intern with the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office in 2018. She earned a degree in Environmental Science and Policy along with a certificate in Geographic Information Systems from California State University, Long Beach, and also interned with the City of Long Beach Office of Sustainability, supporting restoration efforts. After graduation, Kaitlyn worked as a sustainability specialist assisting Orange County cities with compliance under state recycling mandates before joining the City of Lakewood as an Environmental Services Officer overseeing solid waste, recycling, and stormwater programs.


Cassandra Kline

Cassandra Kline served as a Summer Intern with the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office in 2018. She earned her Juris Doctor from University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 2023, sat for the Oregon Bar Examination, and transferred her score to Washington State. Following law school, Cassandra worked as a law clerk in Long Beach and gained experience with a personal injury law firm in California. In February 2025, she joined Small Snell Weiss & Comfort, P.S. Attorneys at Law as an associate attorney, where her practice focuses on workers’ compensation.


Giovanni Longino

Giovanni Longino served as a Summer Intern with the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office in 2018. He earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychological Sciences and Criminology, Law and Society from University of California, Irvine. Following graduation, Giovanni worked as a full-time Lab Coordinator and Research Intern with a research lab at the University of Iowa, supporting psychology and law-related research while preparing to apply to Ph.D. programs in Clinical Psychology.


Pafracio Vallente

Pafracio Vallente served as a Summer Intern with the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office in 2018. They gained extensive experience in tenant advocacy through work with Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and Community Legal Aid SoCal, focusing on tenants’ rights and subsidized housing matters. Their work included drafting motions, demand letters, and reasonable accommodation requests on behalf of housing recipients. Pafracio later transitioned to law school, enrolling at California Western School of Law.


Emma Larson

Emma Larson served as a Summer Intern with the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office in 2018. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Russian from Williams College in 2021, taught for two years, and completed a master’s degree in Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies at Columbia University in 2025. She later pursued doctoral studies in History at Princeton University.
