Prosecutor Hiring

For 95 years, the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office has served the people of Long Beach.

It is our mission to ethically and effectively prosecute the guilty, protect crime victims, and improve the quality of life in Long Beach. We are committed to ensuring that justice is done.

There is no better place for an attorney to gain valuable courtroom experience than a prosecuting office.  Whether you want to launch your career as a criminal prosecutor, or you are an experienced prosecutor looking for a great opportunity to make an impact,  this could be the office for you.

About Long Beach:

Home to 466,000 people, making it the 7th largest city in California, the City of Long Beach has a history and excitement that sets it apart from other cities.  It has its own Police Department, Health Department, Fire Department, and City Prosecutor’s Office.  Long Beach Airport is consistently voted one of the best in the nation and is coming off its busiest year ever.  The Port of Long Beach, the second busiest port in the nation, supports about 50,000 jobs regionally.  Long Beach is home to the largest California State University, in fact, the entire CSU system is headquartered in Long Beach.

Long Beach has over 5 miles of beaches, from the Port to the Peninsula, where residents and visitors can walk, run, or bike.  Long Beach is known for watersports such as swimming, sailing, kayaking, boating, and paddleboarding.  Long Beach hosted Olympic events in 1932 and 1984, and will again host events in the 2028 Summer Games!

About Us:

We hire attorneys with experience — and those right out of law school.  We even hire promising law school students through our paid Law Clerk program, preparing them for practice once they pass the State Bar exam.

The City Prosecutor’s Office offers highly competitive salaries and benefits.  In 2024, the City Council approved Step increases for prosecuting attorneys, to ensure that attorney compensation increases with their experience.  Click here for Salary Schedule.

We recruit qualified attorneys throughout the year.  If you see an active job opportunity on the City’s website, please click the link to apply.  If you do not see an active job opportunity, you can still send a resume and cover letter (explaining your experience and interest in prosecution) to Chief of Staff Sherri Seldon (sherri.seldon@longbeach.gov).
