Guides Explained

The GUIDES smartphone app was created by the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office, and software company Laserfiche. Launched in 2023 the app allows police officers to connect and reconnect people to shelters as well as mental health and substance abuse programs.

The idea for GUIDES came from Long Beach Police Officer Chris Zamora when he observed, “Police officers need a way to refer people to services, or to know if people are already connected to services.  There should be an easy way for officers to do this. It needs to be simple and portable.”

Long Beach City Prosecutor Doug Haubert won a grant from the US Department of Justice, Innovative Prosecution Solutions Grant program. The grant paid for the development of GUIDES.

In the first 6 months after GUIDES was launched over 79 individuals were referred to services by Long Beach Police officers.
