Former Intern Update: Where Are They Now?

Daniel Schettini- 2021

Daniel Schettini participated in the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s office summer internship program in 2021. Currently, he is a summer intern for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office in the Compton Juvenile Office. Schettini attends the University of California Los Angeles where he is a double major student of political science and physiological science. 

Schettini shared that he considers his biggest accomplishment since completing the internship program, since it was only last summer, to be completing each of his prerequisite classes at UCLA. He added that he has been able to  maintain what he describes as a relatively high GPA that he is very proud of. Schettini shared that his favorite experience during his LBCP internship had to be the ride along experience with the Long Beach Police Department. Schetinni added,

I feel that the internship allowed me to see many sides to the criminal justice system and to Long Beach that I would never have seen which has helped me hone my interests into all the careers that are possible. I also didn’t know before this internship a lot of these careers were options that were open to me or even that the careers existed, so through the internship I was able to learn more about my city.

In closing, he described the internship as a unique experience that provides students with a comprehensive view of the criminal justice system.

Edgar Herrera- 2017   

Edgar Herrera was an intern at the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s office in the summer of 2017. After completing the program, Herrera went on to work at the California State University, Long Beach Police Department and also worked for the Department of Homeland security as a Transportation Security Administration officer. 

Herrera now works in the technology sector at a company named HopSkipDrive, where he works within the trust and safety department of the company. He considers earning his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice to be his biggest academic accomplishment. 

Herrera’s favorite memory from his time in the LBCP internship program was the Homeland Security tour at the Port of Los Angeles. He added that the internship allowed him to kickstart his resume and helped him along his journey as a “leader in the making”. 

Emma Larson- 2018

After completing theLong Beach City Prosecutor’s office summer internship in 2018, Emma Larson continued her studies at Williams University in Massachusetts, where she graduated as a double major student in May of 2021. 

Larson studied history and Russian during her time at Williams College, and considers her greatest accomplishment to date to be the completion of her undergraduate thesis. It was entitled “The Making of Mothers in the Motherland: The Soviet Family Code of 1936” and used actual copies of the Soviet Union’s newspaper named “Pravda” in order to analyze how the interpretations of motherhood shifted under Joseph Stalin’s regime. 

Her favorite memory during her time at the office’s internship was taking a tour with the Long Beach Lifeguards, which she described as a great bonding experience for her and her fellow interns. 

The LBCP internship program helped to prepare me for success by showing me just how broad the world of law is

Izzy Del Gaudio- 2021

In the summer of 2021, Izzy Del Gaudio completed the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s office internship program. Since finishing her internship, Del Gaudio has been accepted to the University of Southern California where she is pursuing a degree in legal studies and a minor in accounting. 

She attends USC on a leadership scholarship and is a member of a small learning community called Thematic Option that consists of about 100 students. The goal of the learning community is to discuss world issues and create social change. 

Del Gaudio has also been working in Long Beach at the 1 World Trade Center at DCA Seminars and attributes some of her promotion success there to her experience gained at the LBCP internship. Del Guadio will also begin an internship with the Vanguard Court Watch Program in the near future.  

She shared that her favorite memories from the LBCP internship program were the trips to the emergency control headquarters and the tour of the port. 

The LBCP internship is something I will forever suggest to individuals interested in Law or their community. The assignments were insightful and each class setting taught by Mr. Haubert or another professional in the office was very interesting

Del Gaudio added

Devin Hemmans- 2021

Since completing the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s office internship program in the summer of 2021, Devin Hemmans has been attending the University of California, Irvine where he is studying chemistry in the hopes of one day becoming a forensic scientist. 

Hemmans has maintained a GPA of 3.5 and has been placed on the dean’s honors list at UCI. He has also received a total of $9,000 of private scholarship funds, which he considers to be his biggest accomplishment yet. 

His favorite memory from the internship experience was touring a forensic lab, where he was able to learn about the different fields within forensic science. 

The LBCP internship program has prepared me for success by showing me Long Beach through a different lens– one that has allowed me to see how I want to make change in our community and how I can get there
