On November 24, 2025, the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office and the Long Beach Police Department launched the DirectConnect pilot program.
With DirectConnect, certain shoplifting and theft cases can be presented directly to prosecutors. The goals of DirectConnect include: 1) Reduction of time to prosecution, 2) Reduction of police detective resources to handle minor theft cases, 3) Cost savings, 4) Better focus on repeat criminals and “smash and grab” crimes.
Check this page for the results of the DirectConnect pilot program. (Expected in Spring 2026.)

The concept of DirectConnect was presented to the City Council on July 25, 2025. (Read Memo) For more information on DirectConnect, or to learn how you can participate, please contact the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office at 562-570-5600 or James.Young@longebach.gov
