PURPOSE:
The purpose of the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Multi-Cultural Advisory Commission is to advise the City Prosecutor on practices and policies relevant to the office. Examples of topics may include discussion of court diversion and alternative sentencing programs, implicit bias training, criminal justice data collection, diversity in employment, restorative justice, and ways to reduce racial disparity within the criminal justice system.
MEMBERSHIP:
The membership of the Multi-Cultural Advisory Commission is expected to reflect the diverse population of the City of Long Beach, with careful attention to representation by populations that historically are under-represented in criminal justice policy-making. Additionally, members should have some familiarity with the City of Long Beach and/or the criminal justice system. It is anticipated that the Multi-Cultural Advisory Commission will be comprised of approximately 7 individuals at any given time.
COMMITMENT:
It is expected that members of the Multi-Cultural Advisory Commission shall meet at least once per month, however, frequency of meetings may be modified due to the needs and desires of the commission. The commission may make meetings available for remote participation. In addition to attendance at meetings, members are expected to actively participate in discussions.
