In 2020, City Prosecutor Doug Haubert announced the formation of Long Beach’s first City Prosecutor Multi-Cultural Advisory Commission.

The Commission is comprised of 9 individuals who advise the City Prosecutor’s Office on a variety of topics related to the office’s work.  Topics may include court diversion and alternative sentencing programs, implicit bias training, criminal justice data collection, diversity in employment, restorative justice, ways to reduce racial disparity within the criminal justice system, and other topics.

The members of the City Prosecutor Doug Haubert’s inaugural Multi-cultural Advisory Commission are:

Johnathan Coleman, Youth Representative, attends law school and is currently a certified law student for the Post-Conviction Justice Project. Mr. Coleman grew up in North Long Beach, graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School, and served as Long Beach’s delegate at the 2013 National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention, held in Washington D.C.

Gregory Sanders, President of the Long Beach Ministers Alliance and Lead Pastor of The ROCK Christian Fellowship. Pastor Sanders also was active in the creation of Long Beach’s Violence Prevention Plan, and serves on the Boards of local nonprofits Long Beach Community Action Partnership and “Why’d You Stop Me.”

Gary Odom, employee of the LA County Department of Mental Health providing mental health outreach, engagement, and has access to services for individuals experiencing severe and persistent mental illnesses, homelessness, addiction, and other co-occurring health concerns. Mr. Odom grew up in the Cambodia Town district of Long Beach and obtained his master’s in social work from CSULB.

Robyn Gordon-Peterson is the Board of Trustees appointee. She retired from Long Beach Transit after 25 years of service as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. She is an active community volunteer currently serving as Board Chair for the Long Beach Day Nursery, Vice President of Giving Circles, the Long Beach City College Foundation Board of Governors, Vice President of the Foundation’s Helping the Homeless Students Committee, and on the Service Committee of the Long Beach Rotary.

Sayon Syprasoeuth, Visual Artist and Program Manager with United Cambodian Community. Mr. Syprasoeuth works with youth in art education, job trainings and community building and engagement. He serves on the Arts Council for Long Beach, is a lecturer at CSULB, and received his Master in Fine Arts from Claremont Graduate University.

Angel Macias, CEO of the California Families in Focus Organization, a nationally recognized nonprofit that has provided services to youth and families for over twenty years. Ms. Macias continues to assist youth and their families in facilitating their education and empowerment and helping them find their purpose in the Long Beach community. She does so by participating in organizations such as the Long Beach Youth Services Network, L.B. Rotary, L.B. Forward, Freedom Through Healing, and working as a consultant to youth mentoring programs, among other endeavors. 

Jose Osuna, Principal Consultant, Osuna Consulting, which advises on gang rehabilitation and community-based re-entry solutions. He previously worked for Homeboy Industries, as Director of Employment Services and External Affairs, and was a member of the LA County Probation Reform & Implementation Team, and LA County Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Safety.

Citlalli Vazquez, Youth Representative, recently graduated from the University of California, Irvine, with a joint Bachelor of Arts in both Criminology, Law and Society, and Spanish. Ms. Vazquez grew up in Central Long Beach and graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School.
